Completed Digicenter Projects

The Furman Digicenter has worked on projects across a wide range of disciplines and media. You can view the results of all of these projects in LUNA (login required).

Art Department Slide Library

From 2007 - 2009, the Digicenter worked with the Art Department to digitize, edit, and organize it's slide library consisting of more than 16,000 images. Now that the images have been digitized and placed in an accessible location online, faculty, students, and staff have all benefit from their use, and the collection is regularly used in several classes.

The New Orleans Project

This interdisciplinary proof od contenpt project brought together History, Earth and Environmental Sciences, and the Center for Teaching and Learning. By integrating material and teaching across classes with mapping technology, this project helped pave the way for other rich and engaging projects.

Furman University Old and New Campus Photographs

In 2007 and 2008, the Digicenter worked with Special Collections to digitize the photographs that had been collected of both the old and new campuses. Comprising of photos from 1851-1962, these collections include photographs of building construction, sports, and student life. By presenting the images online and in digital format, they are more accessible to the community and the physical photographs themselves are protected from overuse and excessive deterioration.

Historical Costume Collection

In collaboration with Theatre Arts, the Digicenter scanned and edited approximately 1,500 photographs depicting historical costumes. This extensive collection includes costume examples from Egypt, France, Greece, and Italy, ranging from c. 547 to 1992. The image-specific descriptions, dates, locations, and creators serve only to increase the collection's accessibility and ease of use.
